교회 옆집이 최근 대대적인 리모델링을 했다.
집의 기초와 기둥을 제외한 거의 모든 부분이 새 것으로 단장되는 것 같았다.
집의 기둥과 기초를 리모델링 하는 경우는 거의 없다.
그것은 거의 집을 허물어야만 가능한 일이기 때문이다.
그리고 기둥과 기초는 집을 지탱하며 유지하는 중심 부분이기 때문에 함부로 손댈 수 없다.
우리 신앙을 지탱해 주는 기둥과 같은 것이 무엇인가?
우리 신앙의 집이 튼튼히 서 있도록 받쳐 주는 기초가 무엇인가?
그것은 예수님에 관한 진리다.
예수님에 관한 진리가 우리 영적 삶의 성패를 판가름한다.
예수님을 아는 만큼 우리는 죄를 멀리하게 된다. 예수님을 아는 만큼 우리는 선한 일에 열심을 내게 된다.
이런 점에서 예수님을 아는 체험적인 지식은 우리 영혼의 보약이다.

Remodeling the pillars and foundation of a house is a rare occurrence.
It's a task that is almost only possible if you demolish the entire house.
Moreover, pillars and foundations are the central components that support and sustain the house,
so they cannot be tampered with recklessly.
What is something like the pillars that support our faith?
What is the foundation that upholds our house of faith?
It is the truth about Jesus.
The truth about Jesus determines the success or failure of our spiritual life.
The more we know Jesus, the farther we distance ourselves from sin.
The more we know Jesus, the more enthusiastic we become about doing good deeds.
In this sense, experiential knowledge of Jesus is the balm for our souls."
